In
many ways Søren and Crunchy have grown up together. Søren have taken a
lot of the photographs for the Crunchy artists that you know and love -
just take a tour of the photo-galleries on this website and you'll see
a lot of Solkær-credits. Among his finest work is the stuff he's done
with Superheroes and Junior Senior. And he has taken practically every
official photo of The Raveonettes you have ever seen. As if this wasn't
enough he has worked with pretty much everybody that's somebody (and
even somebody that's nobody) in Denmark. His work in Denmark has earned
him a great reputation elsewhere and during the last couple of years
his international work has been published in magazines such as Q,
Rolling Stone, Dazed and Confused, GQ, Arena and Flaunt.
On November 25th (until January 8th oh-six) Søren will
showcase his very best rock photography at an exhibition at Fotografisk
Center in Copenhagen, and the very same day he will release a 144 page
art photobook with the cream of the crop from the expo. And as a free
bonus the first edition of the book will include for your listening
pleasure - yes, you guessed it (or you are a bloody fool) - a wonderful
soundtrack! All under the same title: "BEAT CITY"

The book will feature photographs of among many others:
Damon
Albarn, Beck, Bloc Party, The Brand New Heavies, Ian Brown, epo-555,
Foo Fighters, Franz Ferdinand, Bob Geldof, Jamiroquai, Junior Senior,
The Kaiser Chiefs, Kashmir, The Killers, Kira and The Kindred Spirits,
The Libertines, MEW, Nephew, PowerSolo, The Raveonettes, Red Hot Chilli
Peppers, Saybia, The Scissor Sisters, Mikael Simpson, Sort Sol, Jon
Spencer & Kristina Martinez, Rod Stewart, Superheroes, Swan Lee,
Tina Dickow, Under Byen ... and the list goes on...

The
pictures were shot pretty much all over the world from Russia to L.A
over London and Islands Brygge in studios, venues, backstage rooms,
hotels, bars and on the empty nocturnal streets that comprise the
scenery for the mythology of rock music. The portraits are mixed with
Søren's art photos of streets, cities and interiors making the book a
broader image - not only of the face but also the heart and soul of
rock'n'roll. And that's something, eh?

The
preface is written by Sune Wagner of Raveonettes, Tremolo Beer Gut and
Psyched Up Janis fame. He is old friends with Søren and actually even
worked as his assistant for a while. Søren more or less started his
carreer as rock-arazzi shooting Sune's first band, Psyched Up Janis.
After that he did a lot of work for us at Crunchy and from there, he
has more or less established himself as the leading photographer in the
musicbiz. Especially his uncompromising work for The Raveonettes and
Junior Senior has made Søren's portfolio so impressive that foreign
labels and magazines just gotta have some of that Starbird magic. The
title - by the way - is taken from one of Sune's songs with The
Raveonettes: "Beat City".
