Crunchy Frog Reportings from Airwaves 07

by crunchy.dk 29. October 2007 15:08

The Crunchy Caravan to Lava Country

For the second time we gathered a group of people and led them over the Atlantic to the both cosy and intimate, but extensive Airwaves Festival 07.

We've had quite a few bands at Airwaves before: PowerSolo, epo-555, Heavy Trash, Junior Senior and The Tremolo Beer Gut. And this year three of our bands were on the billboard; Tremolo Beer Gut, Heavy Trash and Snake and Jet's Amazing Bullit Band (SAJABB). There was a Crunchy show or event practically everyday.

Snake and Jet Instore at Kaffibarin: Visit from The Massacre
Snake and Jet's Amazing Bullit Band played no less than five gigs during the Airwaves Festival.

First gig was an intimate concert at the bar Kaffibarinn, known for Damon Albarn's ownership of a few % of the bar!

As the guys were about to begin a man jumped up on the bar and started fiddling with the sound... who else than a wasted Anton from Brian Jonestown Massacre.

Snake and Jet Instore at the 12Tonár Record Shop

On Friday Snake and jet played a totally crowded instore at 12Tonar's mother shop in Reykjavik.

It was the place to be Friday afternoon. The sun came out and everything was good!

12Tonár has a sister shop at Fiolstræde 26 in Copenhagen, famous for their instores, and their great taste in music.

Geysers and the Worlds Best Lobster Soup
.. and then there was all the bonus stuff you get besides the music:

We recommend The World's Best Lobster Soup.

and a couple of geysers

...and of course the landscapes

The Crunchy Cocktail Party
The same Friday Snake and Jet had played their superb instore at 12tonar we gathered all crunchsters and made ourselves a little VIP cocktail party at the Bar Dillon. The Crunchy bands and fans as well as the Crunchy crew and our collaborators Iceland Air were there.

Again, the room was packed with people and Heavy Trash, who was finishing their European tour at Iceland, and who had just arrived, felt animated and made an impulsive on-the-spot-concert.

Tremolo Beer Gut and Heavy Tash at Lidó
Later on Friday night Heavy Trash and Tremolo Beer Gut Played two kick ass gigs at Lidó the old union house ballroom with wall to wall carpets and big, round tables providing the right casino/mafia-like atmosphere.

Tremolo was of course there to put the "URF" back into the surf. Missing the smoke that usually surrounds their live performances, they didn't leave out their collective guitar riffing kneel. Thank God for that!

The iconic Mr Jon Spencer and his accomplish Mr. Matt Verta Ray took it over and away with their rockabilly of passion, grind and cut-throat twang.

Spunky Delivery at Lidó

On Saturday night at the odd looking school prom-like wall to wall carpet covered venue Lidó, Snake and Jet's Amazing Bullit Band finally gave their fifth and official Airwaves concert to a wild, dancing crowd.

The Airwaves paper Grapevine wrote: "Snake and Jet's Amazing Bullit Band has the odd graze of spunky delivery". - All is said!

Danish television's liga.dk followed the two skinny hammond groovy synth rockers around in Reykjavik. Watch their reportage here and chose the show from 25.10.07. And while you are at it - also watch SAJABB in BBC's radio 1 report from Reykjavik.

Thanks for a terrific Festival. See you next year!

”Superlativernehar allerede regnet ned over de to garage elektro-drenge… heldigvis hardrengene noget at have hypen i med deres dansevenlige, kaotiske, skrabede, elektriske 70’er rock’n’roll…”

The Crunchy Guide to Iceland Airwaves

by crunchy.dk 11. October 2007 14:53
DEAR FRIENDS

As some of you might already know, this is the second time that we, in collaboration with Iceland Air and Airwaves, send a handful of Crunchy bands to Reykjavik to kick ass at the Airwaves Festival. We are so much looking forward to get to Reykjavik to party and hang out with YOU!

We've had quite a few bands at Airwaves before: PowerSolo, epo-555, Heavy Trash, Junior Senior og The Tremolo Beer Gut. And this year Snake and Jet's Amazing Bullit Band (SAJABB) will be debuting at the Airwaves Festival.
Crunchy Frog records are already in circulation in Iceland, but we have recently started a collaboration with 12Tonar who are now distributing the crisp tones for the Icelandic people. Being present at this year’s Airwaves Festival we hope to draw attention to the good music directly from Copenhagen, Denmark. As you might already know our three bands Heavy Trash, The Tremolo Beer Gut and aforementioned SAJABB are on this year’s billboard. All three bands play at Lídó.

We have made a Crunchy Guide to Airwaves. Unfortunately it is only available in Danish. Get the Guidebook as pdf.

GOOD THINGS TO REMEMBER
Iceland is way up north in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. So prepare yourself for bad weather. Leave the hot pants at home and bring the winter coat.
A few good thing you do have to remember:
Remember swimming suit:! - The Blue Lagoon hot tub is a must.
Remember booze! Iceland is pretty expensive. so remember your hip flasks.
.... and remember the Crunchy Frog concerts!
