SPOT 2012

by Simone 14. May 2012 14:00

SPOT 2012 is over. Thanks to all who came out to the concerts with Shiny Darkly, Snake & Jet's Amazing Bullit Band and Thee Attacks. We enjoyed you enjoying them, yes. Below is some kind words about the release parties Friday and our official Crunchy Club SPOT showcase Saturday.

This is how we release-party. Snake & Jet & Laura at HQ.

British CLASH MUSIC joined us at the release party and they liked what they saw:

Snake and Jet’s Amazing Bullit Band boast groin-friendly psychedelic grooves and a mesmerising dynamic between the gawky frontman and supercool Agyness Dean-alike on bass. They’ve got the full package: style, songs, sublime riffs - do catch them next time they darken your neck of the woods.”

"
Thor, Thomas and Laura delivered a set that oozed of energy, groovy basslicks, and a lovely playfull guitar, all delivered with a confident smile."
Junk De Luxe

The combination of guitar, bass, drums and vocal is not easily made exciting – but Snake and Jet’s Amazing Bullit Band manages it to surprisingly great extent.”

Shiny Darkly had their sort-of-first-concert-outside-CPH-debut at SPOT. With no less than four concerts during the weekend, it is only fair to say that they made a depressingly beautiful first appearance in Aarhus. Gaffa, Soundvenue, Clash Music and Drowned in Sound agree:

Every note and every beat sounded as if it was a matter of life and death”

(5/6) GAFFA

The ability to repress the anger and the smouldering gloominess without ever letting it explode is the core in Shiny Darklys expression

(4/6) SOUNDVENUE

Shiny Darkly are one of the acts we’d been tipped about in advance, a youthful outfit from Copenhagen who play punky shoegaze, led by a chap who looks like Alex Kapranos’ younger brother – they’re wonderfully, chunkily energetic.
CLASH MUSIC

"Singer Kristoffer Bech holds court in the centre of the stage, asking repeatedly "Who's suicidal?" before launching into the band's Bunnymen infused anthem 'He's Suicidal'. One song even sounds like The Horrors covering 'Anarchy In The UK' (no, we aren't kidding). Sure, it may have been done before but judging by the trio's cold demeanour, Shiny Darkly sincerely mean it, man."

Once again Thee Attacks tore SPOT apart. Not that we expected anything less. If you missed the show, you have to read this review (if you were there, you should still read it, of course). It's good. And funny. And every word is very true. Thee Attacks is the combination between a modern-day-Danish-Elvis and an old-school porn star with a unruly moustache. Yes.

"intriguing and down right impressive as they delivered a flawless, confident performance that radiated maturity and experience."

It looked somewhat like this. Now you go wondering how it felt the day after...

Hopefully everyone has just as good a time as we had. But of course you had - with SPOT, Aarhus and all this crunchiness, who could ask for more? With all this said: thanks again for a great festival, see you next year!

SHINY DARKLY EP

by Simone 11. May 2012 14:11

And well… Monday was happy-official-release-day for the self-titled Shiny Darkly debut EP. As most of you of course already know it’s insanely beautiful. Let us present to you six very good reasons why you should give yourself a happy-Friday-present, buy it right here

Identifiable as hell, but Shiny Darkly gives you a throughout kick in the heart with the six tracks of the EP

You feel completely captured in the gloomy universe”
– Geiger

The monotonous and replicating songs are confident and spot on

(3,5/5) – Bands of Tomorrow

With an immediate fascinating understanding for distortion, noise and not the least simple musical patterns, Shiny Darkly demonstrates a professional understanding for the currents, which shaped new age and the post punk era

(4/6) – Gaffa

A band which is impressively uncompromising with their sound”

(4/6) – Soundvenue

A unique band which borrows from the past and augers well for the future
(4/6) Lydtapet

These are sweet words, but very well deserved, don’t you think? One thing the reviews have in common is their optimism on the bands behalf. As Soundvenue puts it "they can only grow bigger and darker from here". Darker, bigger, good.

CRUNCHY CLUB @ SPOT

by Simone 23. March 2012 11:48

Things are happening in Crunchy land and that’s a good thing, especially since what’s happening is good. So good. First of all we’ve got beautiful news for all of you who are going to SPOT Festival. We’re taking our London-based Crunchy Club home, and in collaboration with both the festival and Bobkat Agency we present to you:

CRUNCHY CLUB @ SPOT w/ THEE ATTACKS, SHINY DARKLY & SNAKE & JET’S AMAZING BULLIT BAND

It’s a beautiful way to celebrate the friendship between the artists, the industry and the audience, says SPOT. And when SPOT says something, it’s true. That’s a rule. Look forward to three mind-blowing  live-sets with three of our favorite bands in the whole world. This also means you have to stay tuned in for updates on (modesty is so last year!) the without a doubt best afterparty in the world. Since May is still far away, here's some (perhaps completely already wellknown) gossip for you to linger in:

This is Shiny Darkly. Hello Shiny Darkly.

Did you notice that Soundvenue picked Shiny Darkly as “Breakin’ Sound”? That’s a really fine sound. We like the sound of it. Okay. Things are really happening for the three young men: Passive/Aggressive the beauty of beauties among Danish blogs (unfortunately only in Danish) writes sweet words about them and presents them at their monthly okay-so-now-its-the-first-Thursday-in-this-month-so-let’s-take-awesome-bands-and-make-a-night-of-it club-thing at Bakken.  All Scandinavian (this one in English, yay!) is into Diana. So are we. And well, did the smoking hot rumors reach your ear? Danish Newspaper, Politiken calls them “Denmarks New Hope “. Next stop? World peace.

Snake & Jet have been way to busy finishing their third album to restore world peace. Luckily for us. And you. 30 April is the day. We expect chaos at every record store. We know that the wait is long and that patience is key, so make the wait pleasant with Black Egg. It's still up for free download, it’s a gooooood tune; British music-enthusiasts-extraordinaire Clash Music even made it their Track of The Day! We're completely thrilled for the record to hit you guys, and it's gonna be a pretty one, just see yourself:

Stuff That Rotates. Snake & Jet rotating.

Success continues. Thee Attacks and SXSW was a beautiful couple and if we believed in rumors, we would know that people was once again impressed by the live appearance of the four, newly cut and well-dressed young men. They're in Toronto for CMW right now, and the live-update goes something like: "it's a true paradise" (that's why the picture below is absolutely ha-ha funny). Besides SPOT, they're playing at the CPH:PIX closing party at Lille Vega 28 April, and uh hey, Shiny Darkly is actually supporting them! That has to be a good night. So believe the rumors, buy yourself a ticket - if you're lucky (and you are), they'll play brand new songs (read: completely-out-there good songs). Hurray!

Thee Attacks leaning. And looking cool. Cool-leaning.

Confused? Don't know where to go when? Here's a recap:

5 APRIL | SHINY DARKLY @ BAKKEN
4-5 MAY | CRUNCHY CLUB @ SPOT FESTIVAL w/THEE ATTACKS, SHINY DARKLY & SNAKE & JET'S AMAZING BULLIT BAND

THEE ATTACKS WILL PLAY SXSW AND CMW

by Simone 20. February 2012 14:15

We’ve got some very good news for those of you on the other side of that small ocean, they call the Atlantic. Thee Attacks will play this year’s SXSW in good old Austin, Texas, as well as CMW in Toronto. This is not only good news to us and the band, it’s brilliant news for all of those people going. Last year MOJO magazine named Thee Attacks as one of the seven at their The Magnificent SXSW Seven-list. That’s a good list. But then again… Thee Attacks is a really good band, so it all kind of makes sense.

It looked somewhat like this at SXSW last year. We don’t want to make any promises the band can’t live up to, so let’s start with this modest little teaser: Thee Attacks will without any doubt deliver the concert of your life. They will. Impatient, yes? To kill time we suggest you take a look at what happened when Thee Attacks played Roskilde in 2010 (ok, it might just leave you a little more impatient, but at the same time extremely impressed).

G
ood enough news? Or do you want more? Updates on the coming album? Gossip from the crazy-London-recording-life? Stay tuned! In a case like this, Crunchy Frog kiss and tells.

HERE'S YOUR PROOF

by Simone 20. February 2012 12:00

Evil rumors have been going around town this weekend. But there’s no truth to them. Shiny Darkly didn’t sign to some mass-producing major label, and they didn't sell all of their belongings and run away to Southeast Asia to avoid the massive amount of press coverage, they've received since our big news Thursday. And in case you were wondering, they most definitely didn’t fail to impress Saturday night at KB18. Crunchy Frog really did sign them. Here's the proof:

This is the band and Yebo having fun while signing, since signing is probably the funniest thing to do. From the left: Oliver, Mads, Yebo and Kristoffer. And paparazzi.

Photographer-favorite Søren Solkær immortalized the concert as well as the signing. And we’ve uploaded the pictures for your eyes only. Let your eyes and Flickr unite and relive a great night (or regret not going so much that it’ll definitely be the very last time you decided to stay in on a Saturday). HAVE A LOOK!

Once again we welcome Shiny Darkly to Crunchy Frog! And London. Seriously don’t miss out on this one. Crunchy Club #1 is still this Thursday. Shiny Darkly is still playing. And it’s still going down.

If we took the bones out it wouldn't be crunchy! Log in
